Elizabeth Frederick Photography is a custom, full service CT Newborn photographer located in Meriden, CT specializing in Newborn Photography and throughout the first year. Custom photography is a gift that lasts a lifetime. Capturing those moments that will remind you of your little ones little details and all those emotions that you felt during that stage in their life.
I would love the opportunity to work with you in creating ever lasting images for you and your family to cherish forever.
I have a wide variety of props at my studio that are available for use during your session. You are more than welcome to bring your own props that you picked up, but you can always come to the studio with piece of mind knowing I will have lots for you to pick through.
It is best to book your newborn session in your 3rd trimester of your pregnancy. This guarantees availability and leaves room for the creative planning process.
Babies grow so fast. Newborn sessions are best at 7-14 days. They are so snuggly & still curl up from being in the womb. That being said, I love "older" newborns too. I have been very successful with newborns over 2 weeks to 1 month. So please feel free to reach out if you baby is older.
Don't fret! I do book 2-3 months in advance, but if I have room in my schedule I will certainly fit you in. I hate turning anyone away as newborn photography is such a time sensitive session. If for some odd reason I cannot accomodate your session, I have a list of amazing photographers that I can refer you to as well, so please don't hesitate to reach out.
Aside from the baby & any props you may be bringing it's always good to have diapers, wipes, warm blanket, swaddle blanket, pacifier, bottle, formula or breast milk. Even if your child has not, or will not use a pacifier, it's strongly recommended. There are sometimes where a pacifier will soothe baby back into the pose without having to disturb the session.
At this time, I do not travel to homes for newborn sessions. To be able provide you with photos you see on my website it requires a certain type of environment & lots of equipment. I will make you as comfortable as possible in my studio. Plus after having a baby, who wants to clean their house for company?
For full newborn sessions, I schedule up to 4 hours for newborn session. I don't always use the full 4 hours. A typical session lasts 2 hours, but could be quicker. It all depends on the baby. I leave extra room in the schedule for snuggling, posing, feeding, set changes, etc.
The baby is the boss of the session. Elizabeth will try her best to recreate any pose, but ultimately the baby is in control of the situation. Elizabeth always has a set of ideas, but often we have to be change depending on your baby. Not all newborns are “moldable” for certain positions. It can all be dependent upon weight, age, flexibility, body structure, etc. I constantly switch out props and add new ones to keep sessions unique, fresh, and new. Feel free to ask me about a specific prop request & I will be happy to let you know if I still have it in my stash.
I will use your due date as just a tentative session date to mark it on my calendar. Once the baby is born, you will then contact me to let me know and we will schedule within those first 2 weeks of the baby being born.
Full newborn sessions include at least 20 images, it all depends on the baby, A fussy baby may yield smaller results and vice versa. On average, my full session gallery typically has 35-45 photos. This will be a mix of different poses and angles. Mini sessions will have at least 10 to choose from. I do not edit all the photos I take. Some are duplicates, unflattering angles, etc. I only choose and edit the best photos to present to you. Trust me, I'm not hiding amazing photos on my hard drive. My heart skips a beat when I see an amazing photo :) Photos that don't meet my high criteria are deleted immediately.
Each baby hits milestones throughout their first year. 3-4 months we aim to capture big smiles, sitting up assisted, lifting their head. 6-7 months we aim at capturing sitting up unassisted, tummy time & big smiles, 9-10 months we aim at capturing mastering sitting up, standing with assistance & big smiles of course. We don't always capture all these milestones, it all depends on what your baby is comfortable with.
It's advised you keep outfit choices down to 2 outfits. You are more than welcome to bring a 3rd, but please be aware that the sessions move quickly and too many outfit changes usually overwhelms the baby.
Milestone minis are designed to quickly document your child at their milestone they are at. Family photos are not included in mini session pricing, but can be added on. Please contact me for your personal quote.
I have a wide variety of props at the studio including some outfits, rompers, diaper covers, headbands, bowties, tutus and hats. You are more than welcome to use whatever I have. In our planning process, I will let you know if I have anything that will work for your session.
I'd be happy to discuss a location with you for your milestone session. There is an additional charge for on location milestone sessions.
It is recommended you book at least 3-4 weeks before the time you need the photos for. This will allow ample time for the session to take place, edit and place an order on your session
The main difference between a Mini and Deluxe is that a mini session will only be based off the colors of your child's theme, where as a deluxe session will have props, banners, etc directly related to your child's theme. For example, If your child's birthday theme is Mickey Mouse, in a mini session, I will pull colors such as red, black & yellow out onto the background. Where a Deluxe, I will have a Mickey Banner, and other touches throughout the set that indicates Mickey mouse. Also, The smash cake mini does not include a second formal set, or family photos. This is of the baby only. I included links below to samples for each session.
Cake is included in both sessions. I get my cake from You've Been Cupcaked out of Wallingford (you should totally try them if you haven't). Cakes contain dairy, eggs & may have been come in contact with nuts. If your child may, or has any allergies, it's the parents responsibility to alert Elizabeth of any potential allergies. I do have another baker I can use who is an allergy free baker for these sessions. If the allergy list is too long to accommodate, then it's the parent's responsibility to provide cake, or anything else you would like to have "smashed". We don't even have to smash anything, regular first birthday sessions are tons of fun too!
Truth be told, there are not many babies that come to my studio that love the cake or actually "smash the cake". I'm very good at my job and make it look fun :) I always recommend feeding your baby a cupcake, or two, before the actual session to get them used to having sugar & used to the texture. A lot of times this throws off the baby. Then throw a stranger with a big light & black box in their face with everyone going crazy to get a smile, they become overwhelmed easily. Plus mommy has always told me not to make a mess ;) Allowing them to explore the cupcake at home before the session takes that one element out. If you don't want a cake either, that's ok. There are other fun creative things we can do like donut smash, or ice cream smash, how about a pasta smash? The possibilities are endless :) At the end of the day it's about celebrating their first birthday and capturing their curiosity.
As with the other sessions, I have a variety of props at my studio for you to use. If you have any specific or custom outfits you would like to include, then they would need to be brought with you.
Maternity sessions take place within 33rd-36th week of gestation. This is the time you have really "popped" and less uncomfortable any later also runs the risk of missing the baby bump due to pre-term labor, or if we have to reschedule due to weather.
Maternity sessions typically take place on location. I have a variety of locations & always love new location suggestions from my clients. I can also accommodate in studio Maternity sessions. There is a travel fee outside of 30 miles from 06451.
Clothing for maternity sessions should be tight-fitting around the belly. Baggy or loose fitting shirts/pants will only hide the baby belly. In addition, tight-fitting tank tops and maternity tops that have thin fabrics that cling to the body are also good choices for maternity portraits. Regular jeans that we can unbutton are always a cute classic. Avoid busy patterns & stripes for your maternity portraits. They tend to distract from your baby belly. Feel free to check out my Pinterest Board with Maternity Photography What to Wear suggestions: HERE
Glad you asked! I have a few flowy maternity dresses at my studio available for you to use. I am happy to bring them on location as well if you request.
Absolutely. Family is definitely encouraged to join maternity sessions.
