There’s something a little different about photographing your own daughter for her senior pictures.
We hadn’t actually planned on doing a full senior session at Elizabeth Park that evening. We were quickly running out of daylight, so we had about 15 minutes to work with before the sun disappeared. But sometimes those quick, unplanned sessions end up being some of my favorites.
And the light could not have been more perfect.
Catching the Last of the Roses at Elizabeth Park
We made it to Elizabeth Park just in time to catch the last bit of the roses still blooming along the beautiful arches. The gardens were beginning to transition out of peak rose season, but there was still just enough color left to create the prettiest backdrop.
Between the roses, the arches, and that gorgeous end-of-day sunlight, we really didn’t need much else.
Of course, we did bring one very important addition — Luna.
Technically Luna is our family dog, but if you asked anyone in our house, she really belongs to my daughter. Including her in a few of these senior photos just felt right. Senior portraits should capture more than what someone looks like at 17 or 18. I love when they include little pieces of their life that they’ll want to remember years from now.
And Luna is definitely one of those pieces.
The Beginning of Her Senior Year
My daughter is a senior at Wilcox Technical High School, where she is studying hairdressing. It’s hard to believe we’re already at the point of taking senior pictures and thinking about everything that comes after high school.
Luckily for me, this isn’t the end of her senior pictures.
One of the perks of having a photographer for a mom is that your senior session doesn’t necessarily have to happen all at once! We already have plans for photos at a couple of other locations so we can give her a completely different look and capture a little more of who she is during her senior year.
So for now, consider these her Senior Session: Part One.
Fifteen minutes. The last of the summer roses. One very loved dog. And some absolutely beautiful golden light.
I’d say we made pretty good use of the last few minutes of sunshine.
Senior Photos at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford, CT
Elizabeth Park is one of my favorite Connecticut locations for senior portraits because there are so many different looks within one location. The rose garden and arches are beautiful when they’re in bloom, but the park has plenty of gorgeous areas for photos throughout the season.
If you’re planning senior pictures in Connecticut, your session doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s. Location, outfits, activities, pets, and the things that are important to you can all be incorporated to make your senior photos feel personal.
