This Berry First Birthday smash cake session featuring strawberries was the perfect way to celebrate a baby turning ONE—and it ended with a fun and refreshing bath splash that brought even more smiles. Strawberry-themed sessions are always a favorite because they feel bright, playful, and timeless, making them ideal for first birthday photography.
As a CT smash cake photographer, I design sessions that are not only beautiful but also baby-friendly. This Berry First Birthday setup focused on strawberries, with soft red and pink tones, subtle strawberry details, and a clean, light backdrop that photographed beautifully. The simple styling kept the focus on the birthday baby while adding just the right amount of theme-inspired charm.
The custom smash cake was made by You’ve Been Cupcaked in Wallingford, CT, and it was absolutely perfect for this session. Their cakes are always thoughtfully designed and photograph wonderfully. From gentle frosting touches to messy, frosting-covered fingers, the smash cake portion was full of curiosity, personality, and sweet expressions.
Like many babies, there were moments when the frosting and textures felt overwhelming, which is completely normal during smash cake sessions. That’s why we finished the session with a bath splash. The toddler-sized tub gave her a chance to clean up, reset, and relax—and it quickly turned into one of the happiest parts of the session. The splashing water, bubbles, and giggles created joyful, playful images and helped end the session on a high note.
Adding a bath splash to a smash cake session not only helps with clean-up but often brings out even more smiles and relaxed moments. It’s a wonderful way to round out a first birthday gallery.
