This pink and gold smash cake photography session was the perfect mix of sweet, stylish, and playful—ending with one of my favorite moments: a splash bath in a toddler-sized claw foot tub. Celebrating a first birthday is always special, and this session captured the full range of emotions that often come with this milestone.
As a CT Smash Cake Photographer, I always expect sessions to unfold naturally. This little one started out curious and excited, enjoying her cake and exploring the frosting with tiny hands. Like many babies, she had a few moments where the mess and new textures felt overwhelming, which led to some brief tears. These moments are completely normal and part of documenting a real, authentic experience.
The pink and gold setup featured soft blush tones, subtle gold accents, and a clean, light backdrop that photographed beautifully. Even during the more serious moments, her expressions told a meaningful story of this stage of babyhood. Allowing space for those feelings without pressure is an important part of my baby-led approach.
Once the smash cake portion wrapped up, we transitioned into the splash bath, and it made all the difference. The toddler-sized claw foot tub gave her a chance to clean up, reset, and relax. As soon as the warm water and bubbles came into play, the tears faded and the smiles returned. The bath portion quickly became a highlight of the session, filled with giggles, splashes, and joyful expressions.
